New Weapon in War on FOD

The FOD*BOSS makes debris pickup quick and easy, and could save millions in aircraft repairs.

Using specially designed bristles and scoops on an 8-foot-wide sweeper that is pulled behind any vehicle, the FOD*BOSS scoops up debris and holds it in a retaining mesh.

For storage and transport, the 55-pound unit folds into a bag that measures 8-feet long and 12 inches wide.

In a test at a U.S. Air National Guard Base in Tennessee, the FOD*BOSS picked up more than 10 times the debris collected on a FOD walk, and in only one-twentieth of the personnel hours.

“The FOD*BOSS has no motor, no noise, is simple, reliable and maintenance free,” said a member of the Naval Safety Center in Norfolk, Va.

The F.O.D. Control Corporation, based in Tucson, Ariz., has five FOD*BOSS demonstration units touring military bases, airports, and airlines in the United States
